American Canvas Products, Inc. was established in 1975 by James Cordell and his son Fred in 1975. James’ wife, Rena, soon came on board to run the office. She called the shots for the next 30 years, making it a true family business. “The Shop” began as a tent rental company and eventually evolved into Fort Worth’s premiere manufacturer of truck tarps, awnings, pool covers, boat covers and many other custom canvas goods.
Fred’s son, Carl Ryan, began working at the shop in 2007. By mid-2013, Carl and his wife, Chelsea, officially took over the daily operations of American Canvas while starting to raise their new family. Together, with a small tight-knit crew, they work to build on the foundation of the Cordell family legacy while maintaining those same standards of excellence that were established over 40 years ago.
